Day 13: My Christmas Wish
Honestly as I grow older my list grows shorter. I start to want the things you can't buy. This year I am wishing for friends and family to be safe and to feel the love and joy of this season. I also wish for service to be on everyone's mind and to participate in the little things. I also am wishing for each and everyone of you guys to have a magical and loving holiday season.

My favorite part of the Christmas season is the attitude of giving. I love that everyone wants to help each other out. My goal this December is to do more service wise, so here is 10 service ideas.
1. Angel Tree This might be called different things at different places, but here local coffee shops and office buildings set up a tree with ornaments on them describing a child and a list of their needs and a couple wants for christmas. These children on the tree either have parents who are unable to provide Christmas for whatever reason, or children in foster homes/orphanages. By giving to this cause you are directly helping a child have a christmas, that’s a pretty great feeling. 2. Secret Santa No I’m not talking about your office name pull, I’m talking about being santa for a family. This one is similar to the angel tree, but on a larger scale. You can contact your local police department and see if you can help out a family. This one is a bit more money wise as you are providing a Christmas for a family, meaning you get some wants and many needs for the kids and parents. Sometimes you even provide food. This is a really rewarding experience. 3. Salvation Army Bucket This one might be really simple, but that makes it good. I challenge you to put all the change you’re carrying into that bucket before you go into the store every time you see it! 4. Decorate! Help someone put up their Christmas lights/ decorations who can no longer do it on their own. This is a really great way to bring Christmas spirit. 5. Thank UPS This one is not my idea, I saw this on facebook, but thought it was an amazing idea. Leave a bucket of drinks and snacks on your porch for those holiday delivery men with a note of thanks. It will really brighten up their day. 6. Pay it Forward While this service idea works at any time during the year, it’s a great one. I’ve always wanted to do this. To pay it forward, you pay for your meal/food at the drive through as well as the vehicle behind you. 7. Buy Books As a teacher, I know there is never enough books in your classroom, so even if you’re donating just one, it makes a difference! 8. Repay Service Take some time to handwrite notes and bake some treats to take to the local police/fire departments. It’s a great way to give back to those who protect us and give them some Christmas cheer. 9. Pawsitively Sweet Donate to your local pet shelter. I have seen a video showing shelter animals getting to pick out their own toy from a pile and it really made me tear up. I love the idea of toys, but food is also a really great donation. 10. Snuggle Up Buy some nice cozy blankets and take them to your nearest nursing home. What a nice cozy way to brighten their holidays. I love the spirit of giving and hope to check all these items off my service bucket list over the next few years. I got Tyler and I chocolate advent calendars and love this tradition. I’ve never seen fancy advent calendars before this year and really wish I had. They look so amazing and I wish I could afford them all. I would love to get a wine advent or a coffee advent.I think it’s a super fun twist on the chocolate one’s I’ve been eating since I was five. Advent calendars are a very important tradition to me because it’s something you get to do every day and really keeps the Christmas spirit going every day of the month. I hope everyone enjoys their advent calendars! |
